I’m back.
Today, the Green and Golds traveled from Arlington to Settle visiting the Mariners. Before the game, Mike Sweeney, who had a short stint with the A’s last year, in blue receives hugs from his old acquiances. Had Chavez been healthy, we’ll have 2 Chavezes, 2 Sweeneys and 2 Suzuki’s in the game. Dana Eveland, who has beaten the Mariners all four of his encounters, was looking for his first win of the season while Carlos Silva started the game by striking out R. Sweeney with 3 pitches.
The game once looked promising with A’s offense temporarily and mysterious risen from the dead and gave us an early 6-1 lead. Everything was just peachy, shaky yet peachy, until in 5th inning Eveland loaded the bases and cannot get himself out of the mess. Some blame Geren for trying to get a win for Eveland but honestly, with Giese warming up in the bullpen, it really was a lose-lose for Geren. It was 6-7 until Holliday’s 2nd A’s homer tied the game. But we lost, eventually. I don’t remember getting so frustrated with the A’s this early in the season last year. Maybe because we had Ellis back then and it made everything okay.
Hilarious AN comments of the game:
A: Oooh, Cabrera is hitting .429 against Silva. That’s good, because I feel like Silva always (inexplicably) dominates us.
B: He throws strikes. Which is incredibly unfair.
Two on. No Out.
I feel terrible when the A’s have that situation offensively and defensively.
Giambi’s thought process: “Yeah, I’m slow, but I’m still faster than Dana.”
(after Crosby’s triple)
A: People owe Crosby an APOLOGY.
B: He owes us like 1000.
